Authors to lead discussions about the Civil War at Oliver Wolcott Library

PRLog (Press chevrolet Release)– Jul 05, 2011– This year marks the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War. To commemorate, the Oliver Wolcott Library has planned two author talks with leading historian buick s on the subject.

The first is Thursday July 21 from 7-8 PM when author Matthew Warshauer will discuss his new book, Connecticut in the American Civil War: Slavery, Sacrifice and Survival. Warshauer is the author of numerous essays and articles, as well as two other book ferrari s: Andrew Jackson in the Context and Andrew Jackson and the Politics of Martial Law: Nationalism, Civil Liberties and Partisanship. He currently serves as co-chair of the Connecticut Civil War Commemoration Committee and has served as the editor of Connecticut History since 2003. He is professor of History at Central Connecticut University and won the Connecticut State University Trustees Research Award in 2007. The second program will be on Thursday August 25 from 7:00-8:00 PM with Author David Blight. Blight will discuss his book American Oracle: The Memory of the Civil War. He is Professor of American History at Yale University. Blight has served as the Director of the Gilder Lehrman Center for the Study of Slavery, Resistance, and Abolition at Yale. He is also a frequent book reviewer for the Washington Post Book World, Chicago Tribune, and Los Angeles Times among others. Visit his website at www.davidwblight.com.
