PRLog (Press Release) – May 31, 2011 – With each metro Atlanta household logging more than 21,300 miles a year and using 1,050 gallons of gas each according to the Texas Transportation Institute, the steady rise of gas prices is a serious concern. To ease some of the stress surroun raising chickens l-specification.html">bmw M5 specification ding gas prices, Superior Chevrolet, a metro Atlanta Chevrolet dealership, offers 10 tips help drivers save at the gas pump.
A recent test conducted by GM fuel-economy engineers identified a few simple steps that all drivers can take to make their fuel dollars go further. To perform the test, two Chevy engineers drove identical Chevrolet Cruze LT models on typical workday commutes. Upon analyzing various differences in their driving styles, Chevy researchers discovered that even the smallest changes can lead to big savings on gas.
"With a well-maintained car, the best drivers get up to 25 percent more miles per gallon than average. When you combine a poorly maintained car with inefficient driving habits, the fuel economy of the worst drivers can be 50 percent below average," said Roger Clark, manager of the GM Energy Center.
Some poor driving habits to avoid include driving with the windows rolled down on the highway. While driving at slow speeds for short distances with the windows rolled down will not harm gas mileage, driving at faster speeds on the highway with the windows rolled down creates a parachute effect and consumes significantly more energy than the air conditioner ever will, according to Chevy engineers.
Also, when traveling on the highway, drive 70 mph, as opposed to 80 mph. During a regular work commute, the extra 10 mph will not make a huge difference in time, but it will absolutely require more gas.
Avoid aggressive driving habits like jumping on the gas as soon as the light turns green. Smooth acceleration will likely get you home just as quickly and with less gas used. Waiting in long drive-thru lines, overloading your 2011 Dodge Durango R / T trunk, and driving with roof ornaments, such as team flags, are also huge gas guzzlers.
Some to-do's to improve gas mileage include checking the tires each Infiniti m hybird month to ensure that they have the right amount of air pressure. Insufficient tire pressure makes the engine work harder to turn the wheels. Taking advantage of cruise control is another way to make sure that fuel is not used unnecessarily during speed fluctuations.
Do not ignore the Check Engine light. According to Beth Nunning, GM fuel-economy engineer, the Check Engine light can indicate serious problems that can cut fuel economy by as much as 40 percent.
Finally, try to bundle errands when possible. The 1086274749 Chevy study notes that a warm engine is 50 percent more efficient than a cold engine.
