Independent Living Partners With Zimbrick Volunteer Network For Evening Meals On Wheels Route

ZVN has started with one biweekly route and has been making deliveries on Madison's west side since early March.  On the Zimbrick Fish Hatchery Road campus, there are 12 volunteers specifically for this project and that number continues to grow.

Coal Prices Reach New High For 2011 - Coal Savings Products Offered By Asia Coal Catalyst Company

Industrial Realty Group (IRG) of Los Angeles unveiling redevelopment of GM Moraine Plant today

Their efforts are yet another step forward in a Rust Belt renaissance of decrepit manufacturing facilities, particularly in Ohio, given a second lease on life by a native New Yorker.

Founded in Los Angeles by Lichter more than three decades ago, IRG breathes life into communities, spaces and places with its own renaissance-based motif.

Last week, the Los Angeles-based real estate investment firm joined forces with a paragon American brand, The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, to officially unveil a $160 million Rust Belt renaissance project, a breath of fresh air for a rebounding U.S. economy, and the next generation of Goodyear in Northeast Ohio.

GOODYEAR IN AKRON: A PROJECT FIVE YEARS IN THE MAKING

John Kasich, members of Congress, state, local, public and private officials, further refining the art of an IRG renaissance project: embracing huge, outdated industrial facilities with a renewal plan, capital, ingenuity and style.

Originally conceived in 2008, Lichter has stayed the course with the massive, sprawling Goodyear project throughout its many twists and turns. The Akron-based titan of the U.S. tire industry similarly stuck with IRG, as both ride a U.S. economy lurching toward recovery, led by a Rust Belt renaissance.

"It's been a very long road, through a horrible recession and lots of challenges. All parties involved should celebrate this accomplishment," said Lichter. "The unfortunate fact is, that the country has gone into this recession, and it has created a lot of niche opportunities, for what we do best.

"Almost all of our property is purchased through corporate America and government entities. 'White Elephants,' as it were, that need to be converted to their next generation of use," Lichter added. "The part of this that we've become good at, that we're really proud of, and what might just get us the most excited, is the redevelopment of all the facilities Goodyear will be vacating. We have done quite a bit of new construction like this, but usually only because we're already focused on an existing asset."

Goodyear Chairman, CEO and President Richard J. Kramer joined Lichter and Ohio Gov. John Kasich at the Goodyear groundbreaking last week, joined by Akron Mayor Don Plusquellic and Summit County Executive Russ Pry. "This was truly a remarkable team effort and a good example of the public and private sectors working together for the common good," said Kramer.

The groundbreaking took place on a grassy lawn, site of the new facility, just south of the Goodyear Innovation Center.

The Goodyear new headquarters complex is scheduled to be completed in early 2013. At that time, Goodyear will relocate about 2,000 associates into the building, which will serve as headquarters for the company's global operations and North American tire business team. The new building will connect with Goodyear's existing Innovation Center and serve as a central campus for the company in Akron. The Innovation Center is currently home to more than 800 associates.

As part of android application the agreement, Goodyear will lease the office space through 2038 and have potential options through 2093. The project was announced several years ago, but was delayed by the credit crisis.

PRLog (Press Release) – Apr 22, 2011 – These ten fuel saving tips can help you improve your car's fuel economy and take some of the sting out of high fuel prices. Most of these tips will give you a very slight increase in MPG -- but use several together and the gas mileage improvements will really add up.

1. Avoid High Speeds As your speed increases, your aerodynamic drag increases in an exponential fashion. Driving 62 mph vs 75 mph  will reduce fuel consumption by about 15%.

2. Do Not Accelerate or Brake Hard By anticipating the traffic and applying slow steady acceleration and braking, fuel economy may increase by as much as 20%.

3. Keep Tires Properly Inflated Keep tire air pressure at the level recommended by your vehicle manufacturer. A single tire under inflated by 2 PSI, increases fuel consumption by 1%. Fixing a serious maintenance problem, such as a faulty oxygen sensor, can improve your mileage by as much as 40 percent.

You can improve your gas mileage by up to 3.3 percent by keeping your tires inflated to the proper pressure. Under-inflated tires can lower gas mileage by 0.3 percent for every 1 psi drop in pressure of all four tires. Properly inflated tires are safer and last longer

EcoLPi Falcon To Go On Sale Mid-Year

Australia's next-generation EcoLPi liquid injection LPG system for Falcon will go on sale in mid-2011, providing customers with the most advanced LP android application G technology on the market.

The new EcoLPi in-line six-cylinder engine is a state-of-the-art, liquid phase injection, dedicated LPG powerplant that delivers impressive fuel efficiency and reduced CO2 emissions, as well as no compromise engine performance compared to Falcon's existing petrol I6 engine.

"The introduction of EcoLPi is the next step in Ford (http://www.ford.com.au) Australia's comprehensive new product offensive, which will see close to 85 per cent of our vehicle line-up all-new or significantly updated over the next 12 months," Bob Graziano, President & CEO, Ford Australia said.

"It also represents another key pillar in Ford's plan to bring a range of sustainability initiatives to market, following the launch of Australia's first locally-produced diesel vehicle with the new SZ Territory, as well as the introduction of Ford's patented EcoBoost engine technology on Mondeo.

Liquid injection LPG is the most advanced LPG technology currently available and delivers significant driveability and operating improvements compared to the previous E-Gas venturi-style vapour system offered by Ford, including better fuel economy and substantial increases in both power and torque outputs.

"LPG is an alternative fuel that is readily available almost anywhere in Australia and provides real benefits for Australian consumers, with reduced fuel costs contributing to a significant improvement in cost of ownership," Graziano added.

"Falcon EcoLPi offers customers the power, torque and overall engine performance they expect from a traditional Aussie six, coupled with all the space, comfort and towing capability of a family sedan, while at the same time delivering the fuel costs of a smaller car."

The cornerstone of the EcoLPi engine is the new injection system, which follows a similar fuel induction configuration to the petrol I6 engine courtesy of a new injector-based, high-pressure fuel rail that delivers liquid-state LPG fuel directly into the intake port.

Whereas traditional vapour LPG systems turn liquefied gas into vapour form before feeding it into the engine via a venturi in the throttle body, the liquid phase injection system takes the gas in liquid state all the way to the injectors.

Injecting the LPG fuel in a liquid state directly into the intake port in a more precise and controlled manner generates improved engine volumetric efficiency, which delivers better fuel economy, reduced CO2 emissions and greater engine performance.  

As the LPG fuel is no longer under pressure once it is released from the injector, its sudden expansion and rapid cooling of the incoming air charge creates the ideal conditions for maximum fuel burning first drive audi a6 efficiency.  

This enables the engine to produce more power and torque, economically, and with fewer emissions.

The new EcoLPi engine develops 198 kW of power at 5000 rpm and 409 Nm of torque at 3250 rpm, which is identical to the petrol I6 engine when operating on high octane 95 RON unleaded fuel (versus regular 91 RON unleaded).

For EcoLPi that represents a 27 per cent improvement in maximum power and a 10 per cent improvement in peak torque compared to the previous generation E-Gas LPG engine, which produced 156 kW and 371 Nm.

Despite the significant increases in power and torque, fuel efficiency has also improved, along with a corresponding reduction in CO2 emissions.

Official ADR 81/02 fuel consumption certific goverment technology ation testing is yet to be completed, so final fuel economy data will be confirmed closer to EcoLPi vehicles going on sale mid-year.

However, preliminary testing on a Falcon EcoLPi sedan points towards an overall fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions improvement potential of 12-15 per cent for liquid phase injection technology, when compared to the previous E-Gas venturi-style vapour system.

Technical highlights of the new EcoLPi powertrain include:

New fuel rail, including injectors, designed and developed specifically for the Ford EcoLPi engine New design lightweight pistons, including low-friction ring pack Higher compression ratio (12.0:1) to improve engine thermal efficiency and fuel consumption New polymer fuel lines with a low thermal mass to keep the LPG fuel liquefied New fuel line filter and in-tank filter added to prevent system/component contamination Significant modifications to the fuel tank, including all-new internals and sub-level components, as well as a new high-pressure fuel pump New catalytic converter – high density brick and new washcoat (common with I6 petrol engine) Major calibration and engine management system modifications, including a new fuel priming strategy Transmission upgrade to the acclaimed ZF six-speed automatic on all EcoLPi variants

The new EcoLPi powertrain will be available on both Falcon sedan and Falcon Ute, with both model line-ups featuring distinctive "EcoLPi" badging.

The sedan EcoLPi line-up includes Falcon XT, G6, G6E and XR6 variants, while EcoLPi on Falcon Ute extends to XL, R6 and XR6 variants, in both Cab Chassis and Styleside Box body configurations.

More than 100,000 LPG-powered Falcon vehicles have been produced since a dedicated LPG system was first introduced in mid-2000, cementing Ford's position as one of the leading alternative fuel vehicle suppliers in Australia.

PRLog (Press Release)– Apr 15, 2011– Los Angeles, CA – Building on its legacy of champion competition vehicles, Cal State L.A's ferrari College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Technology (ECST) has been selected to build the REFLEX Fuel Cell Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle (FC-PHEV) for the EcoCAR 2 Plugging In to the Future international competition.

EcoCAR 2 is a three-year U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) competition that provides engineering students the chance to design and build advanced vehicles that demonstrate cutting-edge automotive technologies. The competition challenges 16 North American universities to reduce the environmental impact of vehicles without compromising performance, safety and consumer acceptability.

"Students will design and build a mid-size vehicle with highly 'modular' design that utilizes a skate-board concept that integrates the latest fuel cell and electric vehicle advanced propulsion technologies," said David Blekhman, an associate professor in ECST who is leading the team. "The modularity will aid in manufacturing flexibility, vehicle service and consumer convenience. The vehicle will also have the options of PHEV20 or 40 to fit the consumer individual driving needs, hence the FLEX designation."

All the student teams will utilize a vehicle donated by General Motors as the integration platform for their vehicle designs. They will be encouraged to explore a variety of powertrain architectures and follow a real-world engineering regimen modeled after GM's Global Vehicle Development Process.

For control and communications, the team will explore adopting mobile-distributed computing platforms similar to iPad. In addition to performance, these systems will be designed to assure vehicle, passenger, and pedestrian safety, and effective transportation systems integration. REFLEX (Range Extended Flexible platform) will also be developed to meet the stringent Zero Emissions Vehicle standards as categorized by the California Air Resources Board.

To develop student training and REFLEX's design, the team will also rely on support from CSULA's industrial, public and government partners and sponsors. Sponsors include: California Air Resources Board; Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa; California Fuel Cell Partnership; USHybrid; the Southern California Section of the Society of Automotive Engineers; Hydrogen Education Foundation; Clean Energy; ZT Plus Thermoelectric Materials, and Hy-Gen Industries.

Cowboy Day at the Monterey County Fairgrounds

Sector Spotlight - Q1 2011 Renewable Energy Roundup

Regulatory changes formed a large part of the news in the renewable energy sector in Europe in the first three months of the year, with incentive systems in France, Italy and the UK all being the subject of alterations. On the deals side, utilities' sales of equity stakes in offshore wind farms continued with Dong selling off a 50% share in Anholt to Danish pension funds, while in the UK infrastructure funds were involved in a GBP300m deal in the solar PV social housing sector.

The Italian government's notification that it would be reducing PV feed-in tariffs for new plants, when announced in March, came as little surprise.

The country has seen multiple thousands of MWs of PV installed since new regulation was passed in July 2010 setting out F.I.T rates to the end of 2013. Such has been the pace of construction that the Italian government felt compelled to do something to slow it down. Not least were concerns that the connection of so many new solar PV plants would start to have a noticeable effect on consumers' bills.

New feed-in tariff rates effective from June 1 are due to be announced at the end of A buick pril. In the meantime, the regulatory uncertainty has caused a temporary paralysis of the market as developers of new projects wait for further details.

France announced a change in feed-in tariff regulation for solar PV at the start of March. Not only will incentives be restricted to as little as 160MW of ground-mounted new-build annually, subsidised contracts will be subject to an auction process which would involve developers bidding with bespoke F.I.T prices.

The decision came after a four-month moratorium on new plant applications. New projects outside the auction process will receive EUR0.12/kWh, a rate not currently deemed financially viable. In the UK, meanwhile, the Government published proposals in March to reduce financial support for larger scale solar-produced electricity. The planned changes include significant reductions in an effort to head off a proliferation of industrial-scale 5MW plants being planned by investors. The government will confirm new tariff rates on Aug.1.

GIB Capital Boost Announcements on the UK's forthcoming Green Investment Bank were also made in the budget on Mar.23, with Chancellor George Osborne committing a further GBP2bn to the initiative on top of the GBP1bn pledged at the spending review in October. In addition, the launch of the GIB has been brought forward from 2013 to next year.

The GBP2bn in additional funding for the bank will be sourced from asset sales, Osborne said. However, government advisors said that the bank has been underpinned by the treasury, meaning the government will provide funding if any of the asset sales do not take place.

The Chancellor also sketched out the GIB's borrowing capabilities which will come into effect by 2015/2016, once the target for debt to be falling as a percentage of GDP has been met. This auto part should allow the vehicle to raise, potentially, an additional GBP15bn in funding.

However, details on which sectors the GIB will invest in, and at which stage of the capital structure, are yet to be disclosed. The final bmw proposals and design of the initiative are to be published by May 2011, according to the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and the Department for Business Innovation and Skills (BIS).
